Chennai-based AmitySoft is set join a selected group of seven
global companies which have developed software application
using San Francisco, IBM Corporations software development
framework.
The general leader accounting product developed by Amity will
be jointly marked by IBM's international network. We support
our developers to market their products in the international
market and at every possible forum we give them an opportunity
to publicize, said IBM's Sally Rogers who markets San Francisco
in the Asia Pacific region. This is part of IBM's new strategy.
Among the 24 San Francisco licenses in India, Amity is the
first to productise an application. It joins sever other
companies from Europe, Japan, Australia and US which are beta
testing their products in the market. The product include:
enterprise resource planning software, financial management
and human resource software workflow automation system,
warehouse management software messaging system and accounting
software. All these products are developed for specific
industry segments and are not marketed as mass solutions, said
Ms. Rogers.
San Francisco is a unique framework developed by IBM, which
offers readymade application components for any business
application. This has transformed software development more
liked building a car wherein the core design and the structure
will be built by the car manufacturer and hundreds of
components are picked up from components are picked up from
the market to bring it to the final shape and functionality.
Similarly San Francisco has 850 business application
components on offer today using which software engineers can
easily build customized application programmes such as
accounting package, inventory control and even enterprise
resource planning systems. The components will be continuously
added every quarter.
San Francisco framework reduces software development cycle
dramatically, according to technologists. This helps companies
to hit the market with the products at shorter lead time from
the conception stage, they add.
Ms. Rogers said India plays a vital role in IBM's strategy to
proliferate its new technology. IBM is taking the CMS Ltd for
a possible education tie-up which involve the latter extending
its training, network across the country for San Francisco.
The company is also talking to a technical university to
include San Francisco in the curriculum of its computer
engineering course.
Launched in May 1997, San Francisco is in its third release
and has a signed up 7,000 developer across the world.
According to Ms. Rogers 6,000 more software firms are
evaluating the application. It supports major hardware and
software platforms such as Windows NT, HP-Unix, Sun Solaris,
and IBM's own OS/390, OS/400 and AIX. |
